A Cartoonist Always Draws Twice (part fourteen)

Recap- “After his mentor is killed, A cartoonist investigates a crime that involves his father. It leads him to his father’s partner and Ella Monroe who tell him his father left town. The assistant tells him Ray was involved with crime and she’s Ray’s Wife. Looks for evidence. Then his dad gives him some info with real evidence. After getting grilled he finds out that the real Ella is died. Vito leads him to Ray’s partner in crime who leads to his and Ray’s other partner, the detective investigating Ray’s murder. After telling the detectives partner of his crimes he goes home and finds himself at the barrel of a gun”

A Gun. A gun was pointed at my head. The Gun is being pointed by none other than the killer Detective Thomas Rodgers. I remained perfectly still. There’s silence for a moment and then he speaks. “I’m sorry that you got caught in the middle of this, but you stuck your head in business that wasn’t yours. You got too close”. He maneuvers me to the other side of the apartment to make sure he is standing in front of me. I asked him if he was going to kill me. He says Yes. “I don’t want to, but you left me no choice. You wouldn’t stop your investigation even though I warned you not to. All because I made a mistake. I killed that art store guy because I believed he married my girl. I confronted him. He denies it of course, didn’t believe him, did away with him and his wife. Mistaken identity. I didn’t who she was at the time, but she was a witness, so I had off her too”

“Then that asshole Rob thought it was a great time to turn me in so he can have my girl and the money for himself. So, I killed him too. I confess all this because you will be too dead to do anything about it” I stand frozen not sure what to do. This guy who is a cop, is going to kill me and he will get away with it. I have no options at this point but improvise. I start by saying “So you got suckered by her too”. He looks at me like I slapped him in the face. “No. No. You got it all wrong. We are in Love”. I shake my head. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s what Rob thought too. Hell, I was nearly convinced too until I found out she was not who she said she was”.

Now he became furious. “NO. NO..WE ARE IN LOVE”. I hope I know what I am doing here. This can seriously blow up in my face but either way I could be dead so why not try. Then I said “I thought so to. With the sideway glances, the touches…and the kiss”. This made him turn a deeper shade of red. A red I didn’t know existed. He slammed me to the ground and then yelled “NOW GET UP. GET UP. I NEED YOU STANDING WHEN YOU DIE”

I got up and he directed me to the couch. His speech was calmer. “Now I will force the gun in your hand and take your finger to pull the trigger. I have gloves on so my fingers won’t be on the gun” I asked wouldn’t they trace the gun back to him. “Ahh…well it’s a street gun. Filed off serial numbers…they won’t be able to trace Shit”. This is it. There is no way out. He forced the gun in my hand and put my finger on the trigger. They say that your life flashes before your eyes. It didn’t.
I thought of her.

The woman who deceived me at every turn. I know. It’s pathetic.

Then I heard the click.
