Deal with the (Dare)devil

Matty as Daredevil

Daredevil, the Man Without Fear. He was never my favorite as a kid. That was Spider-Man. Daredevil was considered by most, Spider-Man lite.  The Frank Miller run was a decade or more after my time as comic reader. It wasn’t until Kevin Smith came in with Joe Quesada that I had interests in the Man Without Fear. Old Horn Head as Stan would call him. Ironically it was the Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck that hooked me in even further. (For those who don’t know it was highly hated, I liked it as you can tell) The Bendis and Brubaker runs cemented my love for old DD.

The series on Netflix is a show to watch. While Ben Affleck was serviceable as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Charlie Cox cranks it up a notch as the blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen. The supporting cast was great as well, but the real star is Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin played Vincent D’Onofrio. In that first season he steals the show. He brings depth and the right degree of evil to the performance of Fisk. The Addition of Elektra and the Punisher in season two was amazing but the Hand as the main antagonists didn’t live up to the first season’s action. Speaking of Action, the hallway fight scene in season one was one of the best fight scenes in television history. They repeat it in season two with a “down the stairs” brawl.

While I haven’t seen the third season, I am willing to bet that with the Kingpin returning and addition of Daredevil’s other arch-nemesis Bullseye, it will be good. Hopefully with the Daredevil cast now connected with larger MCU, hopefully there will be a movie or at least new seasons of this great series.
